Stop pussyfooting around…

23/09/2012 By Kirsty Leave a Comment

Can you name the five gynaecological cancers and their symptoms?  I managed to think of two (cervical and ovarian) but.  So it would seem, at least in my case, that September’s Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month is needed.  According to Cancer Research UK gynaecological cancers were responsible for the deaths of 7,664 women in the UK in 2010.

On Friday 28th September 2012 The Eve Appeal are urging you to stop pussyfooting around and “get your funny feet on” to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers and raise money to fund ground-breaking research by wearing the ‘wrong’ shoes: you could wear odd shoes to work; wellies to a dance class; or flip-flops to football - you get the idea.  You can find more information about the campaign on their website.

So, can you name all five gynaecological cancers and their symptoms?

1. Cervical Cancer

2. Ovarian Cancer

3. Vaginal Cancer

4. Vulval Cancer

5. Womb (can also be referred to as uterus, endometrial cancer or uterine cancer)

Thank you The Eve Appeal, at the very least you have reminded me that I never had my overdue smear test after the birth of my son so I’ll be on the phone to the doctor’s surgery first thing Monday morning.  For anyone who thinks that is too much information, perhaps that attitude is the reason why I could only name two of these cancers in the first place?
